About these suggestions
To choose a trail in Gerês, start with the official route listing and your group's circumstances. The name and distance tell only part of the story: a short walk can have difficult ground, while a longer route may take a full day.
This guide compares four routes in the Terras de Bouro municipal network. The figures were consulted on 6 October 2026 and are indicative; they do not confirm access, duration for every walker or conditions on the ground.
Confirm the name and route variant
Route codes help distinguish the trails: Preguiça is PR10 TBR, Currais is PR3 TBR, Moinhos de Santa Isabel do Monte is PR12 TBR and Sobreiral da Ermida is PR14 TBR. Also confirm the starting point and whether the listing presents a shorter variant.
Do not combine one variant's distance with another's duration. For PR14, for example, the municipal listing distinguishes the main 14 km route from a 6 km alternative. The comparison below uses the main route's data.
Compare municipal information
| Route | Published distance | Indicative duration | Municipal difficulty rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| PR10 — Preguiça | 6 km | 3 h | Easy |
| PR3 — Currais | 10 km | 5 h | Moderate |
| PR12 — Moinhos de Santa Isabel | 18 km | 7 h | Moderate |
| PR14 — Sobreiral da Ermida | 14 km | 5 h | Difficult |

Use the duration as guidance for the walk, adding travel time and your group's needs. “Easy” is the municipality's rating, not a guarantee of suitability for every child, level of mobility or weather condition.
Sources may have different dates and route variants. The current PR3 page states 5 h; the 2021 municipal guide previously used in this project stated 4 h. For this comparison and the catalogue listing, we use the current municipal page and identify the source.
Check access before choosing
Before setting off, open the responsible organisation's page and look for notices about works, vegetation, ground conditions and other restrictions. Having a GPX track does not confirm that all sections are accessible.
At the time of this review, PR5 — Águia do Sarilhão carries a municipal notice of partial closure for works on the Guarda–Albergaria path, announced from 27 March 2026 with an estimated duration of around 240 days. Check the current situation before planning this route; do not choose it just for a photograph of the reservoir.
Plan for your group
Ask who is taking part, how long they can walk and their experience of mountain terrain. Set a return time, check the forecast and official notices, and choose an alternative if conditions become unsuitable.
The ICNF code of conduct recommends following marked trails, bringing water, food and suitable clothing and footwear, and respecting animals, residents and other visitors. Prepare your map and phone for areas without reception; tell someone your route and expected return time.
