Mosteiro de Santa Maria das Júnias is not a monument in the town centre. The walk is part of the experience: leave Pitões, descend and find the church and ruins in a valley. The medieval complex, linked to Cistercian history, invites you to consider the relationship between retreat, buildings and landscape.
Look at what remains and what is missing. Walls and traces of convent spaces let you understand the building without inventing a story for every stone. Allow time to observe and climb back; the second half of the walk matters as much as the first. This visit does not include the Pitões waterfall or the São João da Fraga route.
