About these suggestions
The best three-day Gerês itinerary starts with two decisions: where to stay and how much time to give each visit. A waterfall, village and walk can fit into one trip; combining distant areas every day leaves less time to discover them.
This is a starting point for building your plans. The suggestions below do not include bookings, calculated driving times or confirmation of access on the day you visit.
Choose a base that suits your plans
If you want to explore Vila do Gerês, the Ermida area and Terras de Bouro trails, start by comparing accommodation on that side. Campo do Gerês can make sense when your main interests are Vilarinho da Furna's landscape and activities offered by local operators. If Soajo and Lindoso are your priority, treat those visits as a separate part of the trip, allowing for the journeys involved.
Open the guide map before booking. Listings with identified coordinates help you understand where stops are spread; the others link to a search so you can confirm the location. The guide map does not calculate a driving route or guarantee that access is available.
Compare what the accommodation actually offers, too. Breakfast, parking, a pool and SPA access are not included in every rate in the same way. Use the accommodation contacts to check those conditions and your arrival time.
Give each of your three days a theme
| Day | Focus | A suggestion to adapt | Before setting off |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrival and getting your bearings | Vila do Gerês, a meal and a short visit chosen on the map | Arrival time, booking and access conditions |
| 2 | Landscapes around Ermida | Ermida village and Cascata do Arado, if access permits | Ground conditions, forecast and municipal information |
| 3 | A walk or activity | A route suited to your group, or an activity with an operator | Distance, duration, requirements and availability |
You can change the order of days to suit the forecast. Avoid filling arrival day with a long walk if you still need to travel, check in or collect equipment. On departure day, allow time to return to your base and begin the journey home.
At Arado, plan a visit to observe
The municipal Cascata do Arado listing describes access along a dirt road to the bridge, followed by stone steps to the viewpoint. The municipality advises against swimming because of the risk of accidents. Include this advice in your plans; a photograph of clear water tells you nothing about the ground or the risks of approaching it.
Read the Arado listing in the guide and municipal information before setting off. In the same area, Ermida deserves a visit that respects residents, private property and local traffic.
Choose a walk that suits your group
Do not decide by kilometres alone. Consider distance, indicative duration, published difficulty, elevation changes where identified and expected conditions. Plan for the participant who needs the most time and allow for breaks and returning before dark.
The guide to choosing trails compares municipal data and explains what to check. If you prefer an organised activity, explore the operator programmes: ages, equipment, meeting points, prices and availability vary. A listing does not represent a booking.
Save your plan and confirm the stops
Open the itineraries, choose a suggestion or create your own trip and add the places you want to visit. Favourites and trips are saved in this browser. Before setting off, confirm restaurant and accommodation bookings, and check the weather, official notices and each place's sources.
Bring suitable clothing and footwear, water, food and a way to consult your map without a signal. Follow signs and take your rubbish home. The ICNF code of conduct is a useful reference when preparing to visit protected areas.
