Albufeira da Caniçada
Rio Caldo and Valdosende, Terras de Bouro
About this place
Bridges, shores and mountains: Rio Caldo's landscape from water level.
Before the mountains, pause beside the water.
In Rio Caldo, Caniçada reveals a Gerês of shores, bridges and reflected hillsides. The reservoir was created by the dam inaugurated in 1955, transforming the valley. From a public access point, notice how the water connects places you will later see from above at Pedra Bela.
This suggestion is a short landscape stop, rather than a complete tour of the reservoir or a pre-booked boat trip. If you want to add a water activity, choose an operator and confirm conditions, duration and availability separately. For today's itinerary, a walk along an accessible shore and a break are enough to change your perspective.

Three details to take with you
- 01
The bridges of Rio Caldo
Look at how connections cross the valley. The landscape tells a story of movement too.
- 02
Reflections of the slopes
The same mountain you will see from the viewpoint now appears at water level.
- 03
A shaped landscape
The reservoir is not a natural lake. The dam changed how people lived in and travelled through this valley.
