Fojo do Lobo de Fafião
Fafião, Montalegre
About this place
Converging walls reveal the old relationship between pastoralism and the wolf.
Two walls tell of an old conflict.
At Fojo de Fafião, walls converge on a trapping structure. Before imagining how it was used, look at its shape: it was built to guide an animal to a point with no way out. It bears witness to the historically difficult relationship between livestock herding and wolves.
The visit makes sense when you connect it to Fafião's community life. This is a place to understand how people tried to protect livestock, rather than an animal show. Today, this heritage should be understood alongside both community history and respect for wildlife. Use only available access routes and view the structure without climbing its walls.

Three details to take with you
- 01
Where the walls meet

- 02
The trapping space
Observe where the structure leads. Avoid approaching unprotected areas.
- 03
The pastoral context
Connect the building with livestock farming and the mountain community's organisation.
